Russian electronic edition gets warning on spread of extremist material
Russian telecommunications watchdog has made a written warning to founder and editor’s office of electronic edition Lenta.ru
MOSCOW, March 12. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian telecommunications watchdog has made a written warning to founder and editor’s office of electronic edition Lenta.ru that Russian legislative ban to publish extremist material cannot be violated, the watchdog’s press service reported on Wednesday.
Russian telecommunications watchdog elaborated that on March 10, 2014 edition Lenta.ru had published Ilya Azar’s interview with leader of Kiev branch of Ukrainian nationalistic organization Right Sector Andrei Tarasenko that contained the link to material titled “Dmytro Yarosh: Sooner or later, but we are destined to fight with Moscow empire.” “These materials contain statements seeking to instigate interethnic strife,” the watchdog said.
The watchdog recalled that publishing nationalistic appeals of leaders of informal extremist grouping one of which was put on international wanted list by Russian law enforcement agencies breached several Russian laws. These are federal laws on counteraction to extremism, on information, information technologies and information security and on media.
According to Russian law on mass media two written warnings of the watchdog that a media outlet receives within 12 months gives reason for a lawsuit over termination of a registration licence of this media outlet.
