MOSCOW, March 07. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Federation Council, upper house of parliament, will support Crimea’s move to vote for the accession to Russia as one of the constituent regions, the upper house’s speaker, Valentina Matviyenko, said at a meeting with the Crimean Supreme Council speaker, Vladimir Konstantinov, on Friday.

“If the Crimean people shows the will and votes for acceding to Russia, the upper house will back such decision,” Matviyenko said.

“Of course, the Crimean parliament has such right. No one has rejected the right of the nation to self-determination,” she said.

A referendum on the Crimean Autonomous Republic’s accession to Russia as one of the constituent regions is scheduled to take place on March 16.

Crimean residents will be asked two questions: do you support Crimea’s accession to Russia as one of the constituent regions and do you back the return of the Crimean Constitution of 1992 and Crimea’s status as part of Ukraine.
