Vasilyeva came to the court not to attend the appeal review, but in order to watch the consideration of the investigator's request to extend her custody, her lawyer said

MOSCOW, February 18. /ITAR-TASS/. Former head of Defense Ministry's Property Department Yevgenia Vasilyeva has refused to take part in the review her appeal against custody extension, a lawyer said.

"We assume that the participation in the review of an appeal is the defendant's right. Vasilyeva came to the court not to attend the appeal review, but in order to watch the consideration of the investigator's request to extend her custody," her lawyer Khasan Ali Borokov said.

Former head of Defense Ministry’s property department Yevgenia Vasilyeva was placed under house arrest on November 23, 2012. Later, the Moscow City Court mitigated her house arrest conditions, but maintained the ban on leaving home without investigator’s permission.

Vasilyeva is accused on 12 episodes of criminal activity connected with the sales of Oboronservis’s immobile property — theft of funds of that joint stock company. According to the Investigative Committee’s chief military investigation department, the damage caused by her criminal activity exceeds three billion rubles ($85 million).
