MOSCOW, February 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Moscow city court on Monday has upheld as legitimate a resolution passed earlier by the Moscow Basmanny court, which ruled that ex-CEO of Uralkali company Vladislav Baumgertner should remain under house arrest until April 14. The Moscow city court has turned down an appeal filed by Baumgartner’s lawyers who challenged the previous resolution passed by the Basmanny district court.

The lawyers had appealed to the Moscow city court, asking the court either to change the remand sanctions against Baumgertner or ease the conditions of his house arrest.

The ex-CEO of Uralkali was arrested in Minsk last August as a suspect in embezzlement. On November 20, 2013 the Belarusian Prosecutor's office agreed to extradite Baumgertner to Russia. The suspect was convoyed to Moscow and taken into custody. In Russia, Baumgertner was accused of abuse of office in a number of episodes, which is punished by the Russian Penal Code. Last December the court changed the remand sanctions against Baumgertner and ordered to release him from custody, but place him under house arrest instead.

On December 23, 2013 the Board of Uralkali sacked Baumgartner from the post of Uralkali director general and appointed Deputy Chairman of the board of the “Uralkhim” Board Dmitry Osipov to the head post at Uralkali.

Despite his dismissal Baumgertner has retained his post at the Uralkali Board.
