NEW YORK, February 17. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian air pilot Konstantin Yaroshenko, who is serving a 20-year prison term in the United States, was promised only an ultrasound scan instead of a comprehensive medical examination for heart failure, his American lawyer Aleksei Tarasov told Itar-Tass on Sunday.

“Konstantin was summoned last night to the medical ward there at Fort Dix where a person told him that at 08:00 (17:00 Moscow time) on Monday he would be taken to an ultrasound examination," Tarasov said. “Konstantin Yaroshenko, with whom I have spoken for more than two hours on Sunday, looks awfully. He has a red face. He is short of breath, during our conversation he has gasped for breath for several times.”

The prison authorities planned no comprehensive medical examination for acute heart failure of the Russian citizen, Tarasov said.

At Yaroshenko’s request the lawyer filed a statement to a prison chief asking for urgent medical examination. The pilot’s previous requests to the prison authorities remained unanswered, the lawyer said. Yaroshenko also asked his lawyer to get his medical records that were kept in prison and to hand them over to high-skilled medics for an independent examination.

On September 7, 2011 Yaroshenko was sentenced to 20 years. He had been brought to the United States from Liberia, where he was arrested on May 28, 2010. Agents of the Drug Enforcement Agency allegedly exposed his criminal intention to transport a large batch of narcotic drugs. It was the first-ever instance of US secret services abducting a Russian citizen in the territory of a third country and secretly taking him to the United States.
