Hungary parliament endorses agreement with Russia on construction of reactors at Paks NPP
VIENNA, February 06, 20:59 /ITAR-TASS/. The lower house of Hungarian parliament on Thursday endorsed by a majority vote the terms of an intergovernmental agreement with Russia on the construction of two reactors at Paks nuclear power plant. Under the agreement signed in January when Hungarian Prime Minister Victor Orban was on a visit in Moscow, two power generating sets with the capacity of 440 megawatt each will be built with the possible financing by Russia.
As Russian Prime Minister Anton Siluanov said earlier, Russia may grant Hungary a loan of 9-10 billion euro to be repaid in 21 years. “There is no decision on a loan yet; the terms of the loan are being discussed, and we hope the final decision will be made in the first six months (of 2014),” he told Itar-Tass.
The Paks nuclear power plant is the only such power plant operating in Hungary. It was built under a Soviet project and all its four reactors are of VVER-440 type. The Paks NPP accounts for over 40 percent of energy generated in Hungary.
