Russian lawmaker urges all factions to back resolution on situation in Ukraine
The vote on the resolution is due after 17:00 Moscow time
MOSCOW, January 22. /ITAR-TASS/. A lawmaker has urged his colleagues from all factions at the State Duma lower house of Russia's parliament to back the draft resolution on the situation in Ukraine on which a vote is due after 17:00 (13:00 GMT), on Wednesday.
"We should adopt the statement on the aggravation of the situation in Ukraine. There are riots going there; people have been injured, both police and protesters. We cannot remain indifferent," chairman of the house committee on CIS affairs, Eurasian integration and Russian diaspora relations Leonid Slutsky told reporters ahead of the parliament's plenary session on Wednesday.
He believes the lawmakers should foremost denounce "the destructive role played by western politicians, who unceremoniously and contrarily to all norms of international law interfere with internal affairs of the sovereign Ukraine."
"We're also calling upon Ukraine's opposition forces to begin productive dialogue with the authorities," the head of the State Duma committee said.
Ukrainians are a fraternal people for Russia. "The State Duma is ready to provide legislative support to all the large projects coordinated by our presidents in December 2013," Slutsky said.
