Lavrov criticizes EU for covering "no citizenship policies " in Baltic states
MOSCOW, January 21. /ITAR-TASS/. The situation when the European Union has been "covering" the Baltic states, which do not fulfil their obligations in the field of "no-citizenship" policies, is unacceptable, Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov declared at a news conference devoted to the results of 2013.
"Our position is that the countries which have assumed certain obligations should fulfill them. In this case it is the recommendations of the OSCE, the Council of Europe and the UN Committee on the elimination of racial discrimination. We are asking our neighbors for no more. Regrettably, they find it hard to comply," Lavrov said.
"We are not happy much to see that the EU, in fact, is attempting to justify this position, claiming that rather effective control over human rights already exists within the European Union. Such a situation is unacceptable," Lavrov stressed. "This position actually implies the existence of special norms in the field of human rights for EU member-states," Lavrov said.
