Lavrov considers Russian-Norwegian energy cooperation strategic

MOSCOW, January 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian-Norwegian cooperation in the energy sector has strategic significance, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende on Monday.

“Our energy partnership is of strategic nature. We agreed to use our potential in the energy sector and other fields, including fisheries capture in the Norwegian and Barents Seas,” Lavrov said.

The talks focused on interaction on Spitsbergen based on the 1920 treaty and on environmental cooperation to ensure nuclear and radiation security, Lavrov said, adding “This is one of our priorities. The North should be purer and safer.
