“There are many people who wish to use any pretext in order to deploy any international military structures,” the Russian minister added

MOSCOW, January 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Assistance to resolving humanitarian issues in the Syrian city of Aleppo does not envision the deployment of peacekeepers, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said after talks with Norwegian counterpart Borge Brende on Monday.

“Nor Syria neither our American colleagues have put forth such proposal,” Lavrov said.

“There are many people who wish to use any pretext in order to deploy any international military structures,” the Russian minister said.

“Initially, there were attempts to initiate a conflict around chemical weapons when the blame was shifted to the government for the provocations, which had been organized by armed opposition groups. Now the attempts are being made to use the humanitarian crisis in order to promote the ideas of humanitarian corridors and non-fly zones. And at present, any ideas on peacekeeping operations are being put forth,” he said.

It is necessary for the government and the opposition “to reach agreement on de-blocking certain corridors in order to deliver humanitarian aid to Aleppo. This should be done so that employees of humanitarian agencies have not been threatened”, Lavrov said.
