Lavrov ready to hear Iranian colleague’s view on fulfillment of Geneva agreements

Talks between Russia's Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and his Iranian counterpart Javad Zarif are taking place in Moscow

MOSCOW, January 16. /ITAR-TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov wants to hear from the Iranian colleague his view on the fulfillment of the agreements on the Iranian nuclear program that had been reached in Geneva. He made this statement at talks with Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif on Thursday.

“We expect to hear your assessment of the progress of the fulfillment of the agreements, reached in Geneva, first at the ministerial level, and then fixed by experts, on issues related to the full and final settlement of the situation around the Iranian nuclear dossier,” the minister said.

Earlier, Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said, “We are sure that the role Russia will play in the Geneva II conference will be fundamental,” adding, “We will discuss this today”.

According to Lavrov, at Thursday’s meeting the Russian side hoped to discuss a number of regional issues “in which we are directly interested, in particular, the search for the ways to settle the Syrian crisis, as well as crises in the Middle East, North Africa, Afghanistan.”

“It is a good opportunity to compare notes on bilateral relations, economy and preparation of the documents that are to strengthen the international treaty framework of the Caspian littoral states,” Lavrov said.

The Russian foreign minister described Russian-Iranian relations as friendly with rich history. “Today’s developments in the region require regular consultations,” the minister stressed.
