Seized Russian trawler has enough fresh water for two months
MOSCOW, January 09, /ITAR-TASS/. Drinking water at Russia’s trawler, the Oleg Naidenov, seized in Senegalese waters, will be enough for two months as a minimum, executive director of Fenix, a company owning the trawler, Yuri Parshev, told Itar-Tass on Thursday.
“Quality drinking water in five-litre bottles is used on board. Enough water was bought for the vessel’s voyage,” he said.
The public relations centre of the Russian federal fisheries agency, Rosrybolovstvo, said earlier on Thursday the trawler would be soon short of fresh water, which was also used for shower rooms.
The trawler owner confirmed that a French battle ship that also dropped its anchor in Dakar would deliver water to the arrested vessel. There was also an agreement on garbage removal, but service providers still could not enter the trawler.
The trawler had enough medicines and food.
The Oleg Naidenov suspected of illegal fishing within Senegalese waters was seized by the Senegalese military 46 miles of Guinea-Bissau on January 4 with 82 crew onboard, including 62 Russians and 20 citizens of Guinea-Bissau, and convoyed to the port of Dakar on January 5. During the seizure several sailors were injured.
The Oleg Naidenov is owned by private company Fenix, registered in Murmansk, the extreme northwest part of Russia. It is a big fishing boat of Moonzund type, 120 meters long, built in Germany in 1989.
The crew remains on board the vessel under control of the Senegalese law enforcers. Sailors’ passports were confiscated soon after the arrest and the crew was not allowed to leave the trawler.
