ST PETERSBURG. /ITAR-TASS/. The Alexander Nevsky strategic submarine of the Pacific Fleet will arrive at the permanent base of Vilyuchinsk, Kamchatka, in the autumn, a source in the Russian Navy Main Headquarters told Itar-Tass.

Within the winter, the spring and the summer the Alexander Nevsky submarine will train three tasks on the Northern Fleet in order to be ready for coming the submarine operational and launching the Bulava intercontinental ballistic missiles, the source said.

“Then the cruiser will take 16 Bulava missiles aboard and make a run to the Pacific Fleet where it takes up duty within the 25th division of submarines,” the source said.

“The crew of the Alexander Nevsky submarine has to train and solve three problems of the training programme that the Yuri Dolgorukiy did a year ago,” it said, adding that the cruiser was expected to train service at the landing dock, deep-sea tests by sounding under the ices of the Arctic, combat firing practice at sea, including the launch of the Bulava intercontinental missile to hit the Kura test range in Russia’s Far East Kamchatka region.

“Thus, missiles of the Pacific Fleet submarine forces will be renovated not later than in the autumn,” the source said.

The Alexander Nevsky, Russia’s second nuclear-powered, Borey-class missile strategic submarine cruiser, was laid at the Sevmash plant in 2004. The cruiser was commissioned to the Russian Navy on December 23, 2013. On December 30, 2013 the cruiser arrived at the permanent base of Gadzhiyevo, Murmansk Region, from Severodvinsk.
