Russian Navy to get some 40 ships this year

This year, at least two more Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines would be laid down for the Black Sea Fleet

MOSCOW, January 03, 13:21 /ITAR-TASS/. The Russian Navy is expected to get some 40 ships, submarines and support ships this year, deputy commander-in-chief of the Russian Navy Viktor Borsuk told Tass on Friday.

He said Russian Navy would get the Vladimir Monomakh Borei class submarine, as well as a Project 636.3 Varshavyanka-class diesel-electric submarine for the Black Sea Fleet.

This year, at least two more Project 636.3 diesel-electric submarines would be laid down for the Black Sea Fleet, he said. Work to overhaul and modernize the nuclear-powered missile cruiser Admiral Nakhimov would continue this year, and three nuclear multipurpose submarines would be modernized this year as well, he said.

Besides, at the end of the year, the Russian Navy will get the Igor Belousov rescue vessel, whose construction is nearing completion, Borsuk confirmed.

According to sources from the military-industrial complex, a Yasen-class nuclear multipurpose attack submarine Severodvinsk will be also put into service this year.
