EMERCOM jet arrives in Volgograd for evacuation of wounded survivors of terrorist acts
MOSCOW, December 30, 20:21 /ITAR-TASS/. A jet of the Ministry for Emergency Situations and Civil Defense (EMERCOM) arrived in Volgograd Monday night for a possible evacuation to Moscow of the survivors of Sunday’s suicide bombing at the central railway station of the city and Monday’s bombing of a trolleybus. The acts left more than thirty people dead and dozens of people, wounded, some of them seriously.
Alexei Vagutovich, the chief of EMERCOM’s information department told Itar-Tass the Ilyushin-76 jet landed at Volgograd airport at 18:00 hours Moscow Standard Time.
It brought aboard a consignment of medical equipment and several cars of the Federal Medico-Biological Agency. Experts of the agency and the Centrospas emergency medicine detachment also arrived by the same flight.
It is not ruled out that the jet may evacuate a number of survivors to Moscow for medical treatment there but decisions on it will be taken by the physicians.
Monday morning, an EMERCOM jet brought seven survivors of the terrorist act at the railway station to Moscow.
Sunday’s explosion at the railway station left seventeen people dead and inflicted wounds on more than 40 people. At the time of reporting, five of them were still in a critical condition.
The bombing of the trolleybus Monday morning took a total of fourteen lives. About 30 people were wounded.
