Explosive device set off in Volgograd’s trolleybus by male suicide bomber
Only the metallic frame is left of the trolley and the roof is practically absent
MOSCOW, December 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Explosive device was set into action in a trolleybus in the southern city of Volgograd Monday morning by a male suicide bomber, Vladimir Markin, a spokesman for the Investigation Committee of the Russian Federation told Itar-Tass.
He said that investigators were working at the scene of the explosion and doing a detailed examination of the area.
“Only the metallic frame is left of the trolley and the roof is practically absent,” he said. “The explosion was so powerful that it blew out window glass in a five-story building opposite the site.”
“By way of preliminary information, we can say now that the explosion was triggered by a male suicide bomber, since fragments of his body have been found and sent for a genetic study in order to establish his identity,” Markin said.
He also confirmed the presence of an obvious link between the act of suicide bombing at the Volgograd railway station Sunday afternoon, which took away the lives of seventeen people, and the bombing of the trolleybus where 14 people died.
