All injured, who have been carried to Moscow, have good chances, as patients are in grave condition and need integrated treatment

MOSCOW, December 30. /ITAR-TASS/. Seven people, who were injured during the terrorist act at a railway in Volgograd on Sunday, December 29, have good chances for recovery, head of the Burns Center of the Vishnevsky Institute Andrei Alexeyev said on Monday.

“All injured people, who have been carried to Moscow, have a good chance for recovery. Patients are in grave condition and need integrated treatment,” Alexeyev said.

A plane of the Emergency Situations Ministry will leave for Volgograd shortly to evacuate people, who have been injured when an explosion hit a trolleybus in the southern Russian city of Volgograd, Emergencies Minister Vladimir Puchkov said.

The Il-76 plane is equipped with five medical modules and carries doctors of the Central Airmobile Rescue Detachment (Tsentrospas) and the Zashchita All Russian Center of Emergency Medicine.

The emergencies minister asked to organize “an air bridge” between Volgograd and Moscow to transport relatives of injured and dead people by special route.

What happened Monday morning

On Monday, another terrorist attack occurred in a rush hour on one of the city’s busy streets. As reported by Itar-Tass newsperson from the site of the incident, the blast occurred on Katchintsev Street of Volgograd’s Dzerzhinsky district.

“The trolleybus was ripped to shreds; only the nose was left relatively intact. Conditionally speaking, the roof became the cupola of the blast,” Volgograd mayor’s spokesperson Mikhail Serenko said.

15 people were killed and 28 wounded in the attack. The death toll raised from 10 to 15 persons, as five of the injured died in hospitals.

Who did this

According to preliminary data, the attack in Volgograd’s trolleybus was carried out by a suicide bomber, as a source in region’s law enforcement bodies told Itar-Tass.

“This is indicated by the character of the explosion and the typical bodily fragments found on the spot,” he said.

The most probable version of the trolleybus blast in Volgograd is triggering an explosive device laid in the passenger compartment. The criminal case is filed under “Terrorist attack” article, the information center of the National Counter-terrorist Committee said.
