Submarines of the new type equipped with the Bulava missiles should become the basic platform of Russia’s strategic forces in the coming decades

PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 24, 9:34 /ITAR-TASS/. Kamchatka is getting ready meet and greet The Alexander Nevsky — a new-generation nuclear-powered submarine commissioned by the Navy.

 Before the end of this month, the submarine is due to begin a cruise to the base of its permanent deployment in the town of Vilyuchinsk on the Pacific coast of the Kamchatka Peninsula, the press service of the Kamchatka territory legislative assembly said in a press release.

The arrival of the new strategic nuclear-powered cruiser in Vilyuchinsk will be a pivotal event for Russia’s Pacific Fleet and for the town itself, said the speaker of the territorial legislature, Valery Rayenko.

“This is the first portent in the program of rearmament of the Russian Army and Navy through to 2020, and it’s good that the top-notch nuclear-powered cruiser will be come on active duty in Kamchatka,” he said. “The event will certainly contribute to the buildup of Russia’s defense capability in the Far East.”

Rayenko indicated that the submarines of the new type equipped with the Bulava missiles should become the basic platform of Russia’s strategic forces in the coming decades.
