MOSCOW, December 20. /ITAR-TASS/. Products of Ukraine’s Roshen Confectionery Corporation can return to the Russian market till March 1, 2014, according to a plan of action signed by Russia and Ukraine to settle trade restrictions.

Both countries signed a document on December 17 after the talks between Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Viktor Yanukovich of Ukraine.

“Ukraine will make contribution to complying with the legislative norms in the Russian Federation and the Customs Union while products are being supplied to the territory of the Customs Union. The parties will take measures to normalize confectionaries trade,” the document says.

The Russian Federal Service for Supervision of Consumer Rights imposed a ban on the import of Ukrainian Confectionary Corporation Roshen to Russia.

Chief sanitary inspector Gennady Onishchenko said the Russian service had pretensions to Ukrainian confectionary. “Of late the quality of confectionary products imported from Ukraine raised our great concern. First of all, this concerns Roshen’s candies,” Onishchenko said.

The inspection proved that Ukrainian products “do not correspond to the earlier mentioned parameters. Particularly, benzopyrene has been found in Roshen milk chocolate”, the chief sanitary inspector said.

Roshen Corporation is controlled by Pyotr Poroshenko. He is a political figure and a statesman. He is Ukraine’s former foreign minister. He also took the positions of economy minister and head of the National Bank of Ukraine. In 2003, Poroshenko founded the first news television channel, which voiced the opposition during the 2004 presidential elections.

In 2013, Forbes named him among the 100 richest Ukrainian businessmen with $1.6 billion.

Roshen Corporation is the leading company in Ukraine and one of the key world producers. It includes four Ukrainian confectionaries (the Kiev, Vinnitsa, Mariupol and Kremenchug ones), the Lipetsk confectionary factory (Russia), the Klaipeda confectionary factory (Lithuania), Bonbonetti Choco Kft (Hungary), as well as the Bershadmoloko butter and milk plant. Roshen produces about 200 types of confectionaries. The total amount reaches 450,000 tonnes. Products are supplied to Russia, Kazakhstan, Belarus, Moldova, Central Asia, Germany, the United States, Israel, Lithuania and other states.
