In the draft statement, deputies express concern in connection with “open interference of foreign state officials in internal affairs of sovereign Ukraine”

MOSCOW, December 09. /ITAR-TASS/.  The State Duma lower house of parliament will consider a statement on the situation in Ukraine at its plenary session on Tuesday, head of the Duma committee for CIS affairs Leonid Slutsky told Tass on Monday.

In the draft statement, deputies express concern in connection with “open interference of foreign state officials in internal affairs of sovereign Ukraine”.

“In our statement we intend to voice our attitude to the events underway in Ukraine,” Duma Speaker Sergei Naryshkin said. The speaker said he had already instructed the leaders of four factions to come up with their offers on the draft document initiated by the Duma committee for CIS affairs.

Parliamentarians wanted to warn that “unsanctioned rallies, blocking of governmental authorities, seizure of administrative buildings, riots, destruction of historical monuments lead to destabilization in the country and are fraught with serious negative economic and political consequences for the Ukrainian population,” committee’s head Leonid Slutsky told Tass.

“Open interference by foreign state activists in internal affairs of sovereign Ukraine conflicting with all norms of international practice causes particular concern,” the document said.

“At meetings organized by the opposition western politicians openly urge them to dispute decisions of legitimately elected authorities of the country, making their destructive contribution to the worsening of political situation,” the statement said.

Parliamentarians draw attention to the fact that Ukraine’s geopolitical choice is an internal and sovereign right of its people, and urge western politicians ‘to stop putting pressure on the country’s policy’”.

“We, for our part, have always respected and will respect the decision made by the legitimate authorities of fraternal Ukraine,” the draft statement said.

At the same time, the lower house of parliament intends to appeal to all political forces in Ukraine to find a peaceful way out of the current situation for the benefit of the people. “The State Duma also urges the opposition forces in Ukraine to get back within the constitutional field, stop unlawful acts and settle all problems facing the country strictly in line with national laws,” the draft document summed up.

“Ukraine is a strategic partner of the Russian Federation. Our peoples are united by centuries-long social-economic, political and cultural ties. We have always been and will keep being interested in a strong and prosperous Ukraine,” the draft document says.
