MOSCOW, December 06. /ITAR-TASS/. The lawyer of former CEO of the oil company YUKOS Mikhail Khodorkovsky is unaware of investigation of any new criminal cases against him.

“We were not notified about anything and we do not have any information that some more criminal cases are being investigated against Khodorkovsky,” Khodorkovsky’s lawyer Vadim Klyuvgant told Itar-Tass on Friday.

In reply to a question about forthcoming amnesty Klyuvgant noted that he finds it inexpedient to foretell whether Mikhail Khodorkovsky and Platon Lebedev will fall under the effect of the amnesty. “Do we need any pure contemplations now whether they will be amnestied or not. When the amnesty act is approved, then everything will become clear,” he said.

Two criminal cases were investigated against former YUKOS CEO Mikhail Khodorkovsky and former MENATEP CEO Platon Lebedev. In the first criminal case the Meshchansky court of Moscow sentenced them to nine years in prison in May 2005, finding them guilty under several articles of the Russian Criminal Code, including fraud and tax evasion. Then the Moscow city court reduced the term in prison for them to eight years.

In the second criminal case on December 30, 2010, the Khamovnichesky court in Moscow has found Khodorkovsky and Lebedev guilty of fraud and money laundering and sentenced them to 14 years in prison with the term in prison taken into account under the first guilty verdict. Later the presidium of the Moscow city court commuted the sentence to 11 years in prison and the Supreme Court mitigated the sentence by two more months. Finally Lebedev is to be released in May 2014 and Khodorkovsky in August 2014.
