MOSCOW, December 03. /ITAR-TASS/. Russia seeks to return diplomats to Libya as soon as possible, Foreign Ministry deputy spokesman Maria Zakharova said on Tuesday.

“The problem is being discussed. We continue corresponding contacts with Libya. Special attention is riveted to ensuring security of the Russian Embassy’s staff. We can’t jeopardize their lives,” Zakharova said.

Russia believes that Libya “implements certain measures to ensure security of the Russian Embassy staff. This will be done in compliance with Tripoli’s obligations”. “The Libyan authorities should pay compensations for material damage caused to the Russian Embassy,” the deputy spokesman said.

Recently the Russian Embassy “has received a notification that the Libyan government is ready to ensure security of the Russian Embassy staff and create necessary conditions for resuming the work”. “As soon as this is done our diplomats will start returning to Tripoli,” she added.

“Lately relations with Tripoli have become more dynamical,” Zakharova said, adding “Libyan Foreign Minister Mohamed Abdelaziz made a useful visit to Moscow on September 10. Both parties succeeded in determining ways to develop political, trade and economic cooperation.”

“The absence of the Russian Embassy in Tripoli hampers, of course, working contacts with Libya in order to settle the existing humanitarian problems,” Zakharova said.
