The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against former Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov on suspicion of criminal negligence

MOSCOW, December 02. /ITAR-TASS/. Former Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov will turn up in the Russian Investigative Committee for the interrogation on Tuesday, December 3, over the criminal negligence case opened against him, Serdyukov’s lawyer Konstantin Rivkin told Itar-Tass on Monday.

“We are going to turn up for questioning,” the lawyer said. He refused from any comments over Serdyukov’s position and expected results of a forthcoming interrogation.

The Russian Investigative Committee has opened a criminal case against former Russian Defense Minister Anatoly Serdyukov on suspicion of criminal negligence that caused losses of up to 56 million rubles (about $1.7 million).

The court did not rule on a measure of restraint to Serdyukov. Rivkin told Itar-Tass earlier that Article 293 Part 1 of the Russian Criminal Code, under which the criminal case was opened against the former minister, does not envisage the putting in custody. However, the spokesman of the Russian Investigative Committee noted that the accusation in the Serdyukov affair may be changed, and the accusation can be brought against him within ten days after the interrogation.
