CNN refuses to comment on its editing of Russian diplomat’s interview

CNN spokespeople have refused to comment on the situation with an interview of the Russian ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, in which the channel clipped out a number fragments

NEW YORK, November 28, 23:28 /ITAR-TASS/. CNN spokespeople have refused to comment on the situation with an interview of the Russian ambassador to the UN, Vitaly Churkin, in which the channel clipped out a number fragments.

A representatives of the CNN press service said the channel never gives any comments regarding its programs. He did not explain why the ambassador’s appeal to heed the will of the Syrian people, who mostly support President Bashar al-Assad, was cut out of a show hosted by the popular anchorwoman Christiane Amanpour that went on the air Tuesday.

Nor did CNN provide any explanations for removing Churkin’s assessments of the developments in Syria, for instance, the obstacles to humanitarian operations put up by the opposition.

The press service also refused to give any comments on whether the channel’s senior executives were aware of the assessment of the incident given earlier by the Deputy Director of information department of the Russian Foreign Ministry, Maria Zakharova, who said: “The the CNN cut out the interview Churkin’s principles assessments regarding Syria stands far beyond the boundaries of professionalism and just simple understanding.”

The CNN spokesman said he could not say exactly whether or not the company’s decision-makers had been familiarized with Zakharova’s commentary and he said he did not have any notes on it.

Representatives of other departments of the channel, who might have shed some light on the situation, did not respond to Itar-Tass questions.
