Representatives of the U.S. Consulate promised to provide necessary assistance to Willcox in searching temporary accommodation

ST PETERSBURG, November 20, /ITAR-TASS/. St. Petersburg’s Kalininsky district court has ruled to release U.S. citizen, Greenpeace’s Arctic Sunrise captain Peter Willcox on a two million rouble bail. He was arrested on September 19, a day after several Greenpeace activists attempted to scale an offshore oil platform in Russian Arctic waters.

Willcox will be freed when bail is paid.

Representatives of the U.S. Consulate promised to provide necessary assistance to Willcox in searching temporary accommodation until the trial was completed. Peter Willcox, in turn, assured the court he would not leave Russia without permission.

Earlier, Willcox was fined 20,000 rubles (one dollar is equal to 32.7 rubles) after his vessel was detained in the Pechora Sea, northwestern Russia. He was fined for not fulfilling requirements of a coast guard.

The captain’s lawyer said the fine had already been paid by Greenpeace.
