Russia urges Libya to bring back law and order
Due to deterioration of security situation, the Foreign Minister recommends Russians to stay away from Libya
MOSCOW, November 18, /ITAR-TASS/. Russia’s Foreign Ministry urges Libya to take measures to bring back law and order in the country.
The ministry recommends Russians to stay away from Libya.
“Mass media report the tense situation in Libya has deteriorated in recent days. The November 15 clashes between protesters and armed formations escalated into a scale conflict with using force. The Healthcare Ministry said 47 people died and over 400 people were injured. The army’s units succeeded in stopping the bloodshed,” the ministry said.
A state of emergency has been imposed in Libya. The government demanded all armed detachments leave the capital.
“The escalation of violence involved former supporters of al Gaddafi drew a considerable response. Different Libyan parties, public and political organisations, and trade unions condemned the incident. A three-day general strike has been declared in Tripoli,” the ministry said.
Political instability and pressing security issues “arouse serious concern”. Moscow “urges Libyan authorities to take measures to bring back law and order in the capital and other districts”, the ministry said.
“We’re sure that the Libyan leaders’ efforts to improve a broad dialogue with the participation of political and regional forces will facilitate total stabilisation in the country and help create conditions for promoting the political process,” the ministry said.
