Stabbed Russian deputy consul in Panama undergoes surgery; his life not at risk

MEXICO CITY, October 12 (Itar-Tass) - Russia’s deputy consul in Panama, Yevgeny Manilov, who was attacked and stabbed earlier in the day, has been successfully operated on and doctors say his health is not at risk, Russia’s ambassador to Panama, Aleksei Yermakov, told Itar-Tass over the telephone.

The diplomat said the incident occurred on the premises of the building in Panama’s capital where the Russian diplomatic mission rents offices on Friday morning. Manilov was attacked by a drug addict, identified as a citizen of Ukraine.

The man was detained by security personnel and handed over to the police.

Yermakov said the Panamanian authorities provided every possible support for the embassy and the injured diplomat.
