Russian diplomat Dmitry Vishernev was shot dead September 9

MOSCOW, September 12 (Itar-Tass) - The Russian Investigative Committee opened a criminal case over the murder of Russian diplomat Dmitry Vishernev in Abkhazia, spokesman of the Russian Investigative Committee Vladimir Markin told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

“The main investigation department in the North Caucasian Federal District opened a criminal case over the murder of First Secretary of the consular department in the Russian Embassy to Abkhazia Dmitry Vishernev under three articles of the Russian Criminal Code for an attempt on the life of a statesman, attempted murder of two and more people and illegal circulation of weapons,” Markin said.

The killer shot at Vishernev, when the latter was driving in his service car from the garage, a spokesman of the Sukhum police department told Itar-Tass.

The murder was committed near a house in Nazadze Street in Sukhum, where the Russian diplomat lived in a rented flat.

The wife was staying with Vishernev. She was injured and rushed to Sukhum's republican hospital where the woman underwent a surgery.
