STRELNA, September 5 (Itar-Tass) - Russian and German foreign ministers, Sergei Lavrov and Guido Westerwelle, are meeting on the sidelines of the G20 summit in St. Petersburg against the background of the worsening situation in Syria and intensification of diplomatic efforts to search for a peaceful solution to the conflict.

Prior to the talks, Lavrov told Westerwelle at the latter’s request how the Konstantinovsky Palace in Strelna, an outskirt of St. Petersburg, was being renovated.

The talks then continued behind the closed doors.

Diplomatic sources at the German delegation said that Westerwelle was planning to meet French Foreign Minister Laurent Fabius after the talks with Lavrov.
