MOSCOW, August 10 (Itar-Tass) - Soviet ice hockey great Vladimir Vikulov died at 67 on Friday, the CSKA sports club said on its website.
Vikulov, a trainee of the CSKA farm club, spent 13 years of his life playing for the team that in many senses was his home.
“The CSKA ice hockey club offers sincere condolences to the relatives and friends of Vladimir Vikulov and will preserve the memory of this remarkable athlete for future generations of CSKA players and fans,” the team said in a statement.
Vikulov was born in Moscow on July 20, 1946. He played as a striker for the CSKA (1964-1979) and the USSR national squad (1965-1977). Holder of the USSR honored master of sports title (1967). Vikulov was a double Olympic champion (1968 and 1972), seven times world champion (1966-1971 and 1975) and twelve times champion of the USSR (1964-1966, 1968, 1970-1973, 1975, 1977-1979).
