MOSCOW, July 19 (Itar-Tass) - Moscow City offers every opportunity for a legitimate organization of mass public actions, while unauthorized rallies and meetings are inadmissible, the city’s Acting Mayor, Sergei Sobyanin said Friday.

“I think it’s totally inadmissible to hold unauthorized mass actions that impede the city’s normal functioning,” he said. “Moscow offers every legitimate opportunity to organize a rally for those who want it and this can be done in strict compliance with law.”

“Thousands of mass events have been held in full conformity to the law over the past two years,” Sobyanin said. “I think any attempts to destabilize the situation, to block the roads, and to hamper other people’s life are simply inadmissible.”

A mass action was held at the crossroads of Mokhovaya and Tverskaya Streets Thursday night in support of the leading oppositionist Alexei Navalny, a candidate for the mayor’s office in the September election who was sentenced to five years in jail Thursday for ostensible property embezzlements in a forestry company.
