MOSCOW, June 13 (Itar-Tass) - State Duma deputies have prepared amendments to the Russian Family Code under which gay pairs and single foreigners are banned to adopt Russian orphans, deputy chairman of the Duma Committee for the Family, Women and Children Irina Sokolova said.

In an interview with the Izvestiya newspaper on Thursday, the lawmaker said deputies were planning to add severe restrictions to Article 127 of the Family Code. “This Article will be added by the ban to adopt our children by single foreigners from the states where homosexual marriages are legalized. It will be not easy to make amendments that is why we’ve decided to change our legislation because children are adopted in compliance with this law,” she stressed.

Deputy Yelena Senatorova (United Russia) said there were cases when Russian orphans had been adopted by single  foreigners and then children turned out to be in homosexual families. “Of course, it is difficult to know this fact. There were cases when a child turned out to be in a homosexual family under the veil of single adoption parent. The family, which adopts children, should have a mother and a father,” the lawmaker said.

On June 13, the Duma committee should discuss the norms, which ban the adoption of Russian children to the countries where homosexual marriages are legalized.

At present, homosexual marriages are allowed in 14 world countries. Recently French President Francois Hollande signed a law to legalize homosexual marriages.
