Marchukov continued saying a date may be appointed “not earlier than on next Monday”

MINSK, March 8 (Itar-Tass) – Russia’s embassy in Minsk does not have information as to when Russia’s citizen Sergei Kabalov suspected of a hijacking attempt may be extradited to Russia, aide to the Russian diplomatic mission Vladimir Marchukov said on Friday.

Marchukov continued saying a date may be appointed “not earlier than on next Monday.”

The diplomat said that Kabalov had been detained on March 7, as he was trying to leave the territory of Belarus. The embassy “evaluates highly the actions of the Belarusian border guards, who reacted properly to the request from Russia’s Interior Ministry” and managed to detain the Russian who was trying to escape the investigation.

Marchukov said “a representative of the Russian Consul General in Brest has been contacting closely the law enforcement authorities in Belarus.”

“All rights of the detained Russian citizen will be observed surely,” the diplomat said.

On January 11 of the current year, a businessman from Saratov, Sergei Kabalov was on board a plane of the Kogalymavia Company, which operated a flight from Moscow to Hurghada. He started a drunken brawl and damaged a cabin attendant. On the following day, the cabin attendant filed an application to Russian law enforcement authorities. Criminal proceedings were initiated. Kabalov was put on the international wanted list.

On Thursday, press service of Russia’s Interior Ministry reported Kabalov had been detained in Belarus.
