Criminal gang stealing metallic structures from bridge construction on Russky Island exposed

The criminals were put on recognizance not to leave the city

VLADIVOSTOK, January 17 (Itar-Tass) – The police in the Primorsky Territory exposed a criminal group, which was stealing the metallic structures from the construction site of a bridge on the Russky Island. According to the preliminary reports, the damages inflicted by the criminal group reached about 96 million roubles, spokesperson of the police department in the Primorsky Territory Yevgeniya Sokovishina told Itar-Tass on Thursday.

The department for economic security and counteraction to corruption in the Primorsky territorial police department reported that the criminal group, which was headed by the former security guard of the building subcontractor Mostovik, was stealing expensive metallic structures from the warehouse. The stolen metallic structures were sold at the metal scrapping stations in Vladivostok. Infiltrating regularly in the restricted-access warehouses, the criminals have taken away tonnes of raw materials on the counterfeit documents.

“Three members of the criminal group are the defendants in the criminal case, which was opened for a massive theft committed by the organized criminal group. The criminals were put on recognizance not to leave the city. In the measure of restraint their confession, the voluntary turning in the police and the active assistance to expose and investigate the crime were taken into account,” Sokovishina said.

A gigantic cable bridge was built on the Russky Island in Vladivostok by the APEC summit, which was held last September.
