PETROPAVLOVSK-KAMCHATSKY, December 29 (Itar-Tass) — The transport refrigerator Korsakov, which went out of control in the Sea of Okhotsk near Kamchatka's western coast on December 28, will be towed to the port of Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky for repair. The decision is taken by the ship owner, the press service of the Emergencies Ministry’s Kamchatka regional department told Itar-Tass on Saturday.

There are strong currents in the Second Kuril Strait near Onekotan Island, where the vessel remains at present. The rescue vessel Predanny with divers aboard came to the site on Saturday. Assessing the situation, specialists said it was unreasonable to conduct underwater work there.

The large refrigerator trawler Ostrov Sakhalin will haul the Korskov to the port. The ships will move to the Avacha Bay on Saturday evening. The distance to the port is 360 km. They are expected to arrive in the Kamchatka port at 10:00 a.m. on December 31.

The Korsakov is registered in the port of Nevelsk and belongs to the Sakhalin-based company Gidrostroi. The ship went out of control 27 km off the port of Ozernoi on December 28. The wheel of the vessel stuck.

There are 67 people -- 32 crewmembers and 35 passengers -- aboard the Korsakov. The refrigerator also has about 400 tonnes of diesel fuel. There is no threat to the people, and no possibility of fuel leakage.

As was earlier reported, the trawler Ostrov Sakhalin towed the refrigerator to a safe place, to Onekotan Island, the Northern Kuriles, late on December 28, and the Korsakov anchored in the Second Kuril Strait.
