Fed Council passes resolution on orphaned children in Russia

The lawmakers recommended the Russian government to work out a single mechanism of adoption of orphaned children by Russian parents

MOSCOW, December 26 (Itar-Tass) — The Russian Federation Council on Wednesday passed a resolution on measures to improve the mechanism of child adoption by Russian nationals.

The lawmakers recommended the Russian government to work out a single mechanism of adoption of orphaned children by Russian parents, step up efforts to set up a state alimony fund and speed up the implementation of priority measures under the national strategy of action in the interests of children.

The Federation Council called for raising the efficiency of children’s homes and boarding schools in rendering assistance in the adoption of children, perfecting legislation on prevention of maltreatment of children as well as improving a policy designed to prevent social orphanage.

The Federation Council, the upper chamber of the Russian Federal Assembly, suggested that the cabinet of ministers draw up and submit a draft federal law “On the Protection of Child Health in Russia.”

The Federation Council urged executive power bodies to make high-tech medical aid available to ill orphaned children.

In addition to that, the Federation Council recommended the Russian State Duma to speed up consideration and adoption of bills on exercising public control over execution of orphans’ rights, social patronage and the provision of orphaned children with housing.
