More than 1,000 facilities with hazardous waste to be surveyed by year-end — Russian PM
The law obliges regional and municipal authorities "to be more actively engaged in this activity," he noted
MOSCOW, January 9. /TASS/. More than a thousand facilities with waste posing threat to people’s health will be surveyed by the end of the year as part of the General Cleanup federal project, Prime Minister Mikhail Mishustin said.
The initiative lasting for four years "shows good results," particularly when assessing such facilities as "dumps and inoperative industrial plants and other structures with waste that pollute water, soil, air and, most importantly, create health and safety risks," the Prime Minister said.
"More than a thousand of such facilities are to be surveyed by the end of this year," Mishustin said.
The law obliges regional and municipal authorities "to be more actively engaged in this activity," he noted.
"We should prioritize hazards from facilities with high risks and liquidate them as soon as practicable," the Prime Minister added.
The General Cleanup federal project was approved by an order from the Prime Minister in 2021. Objects which cause environmental damage are inventoried and an assessment of their impact on the life and health of individuals is performed. These objects are then liquidated after the conclusion of the survey.
