Tsunami waves were expected to come from the Ussuri Bay, reaching Vladivostok
MOSCOW, January 1. /TASS/. No tsunami waves were recorded in Russia’s far eastern city of Vladivostok following powerful earthquakes in Japan, the city administration said in a statement.
"The Tsunami Center reports that no tsunami was recorded in Vladivostok as of 7:55 p.m. (9:55 a.m. GMT - TASS)," the statement reads.
Tsunami waves were expected to come from the Ussuri Bay, reaching Vladivostok at about 7:36 p.m.
A tsunami went largely unnoticed in the city of Nakhodka.
A series of powerful earthquakes with magnitudes of up to 7.6 rocked central Japan earlier on Monday. A tsunami warning was issued for the country’s entire western coast where waves may rise as high as five meters. Over ten people suffered injuries; more than 30,000 households in central Japan were left without electricity.
