MOSCOW, December 24. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin has congratulated Azerbaijani counterpart Ilham Aliyev, who turned 62 today, on his birthday and highlighted his personal contribution to the strengthening of allied relations between Russia and Azerbaijan.

"It is difficult to overestimate your personal contribution to the strengthening of allied relations between our countries," Putin said in his congratulatory message uploaded to the Kremlin website.

The Russian president also noted that under Aliyev's presidency Azerbaijan has achieved significant successes on economic and social fronts, and plays an important role in regional and international affairs.

"I will be glad to continue constructive dialogue and close joint work," the message said. Putin wished Aliyev good health, happiness and well-being and asked him to convey his best regards to the family of the Azerbaijani president.
