UN must recognize entry of new territories into Russian Federation — official
Russia's position is that humanitarian assistance should be carried out without politicization, Head of the Russian interdepartmental delegation and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said
GENEVA, December 17. /TASS/. The UN and other international organizations must objectively assess the situation in the new Russian territories and take into account in its humanitarian work the fact that the population of Donbass has suffered from attacks by the Kiev regime since 2014, Head of the Russian interdepartmental delegation and Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergey Vershinin said.
Russia's position is that humanitarian assistance should be carried out without politicization, Vershinin emphasized. This means that international organizations "must be objective and take into account the true situation on the ground," in particular, the entry of the Donetsk and Lugansk People’s republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions into Russia. The diplomat noted that he "was forced to draw the attention of UN representatives to the fact that since 2014, attacks by the Kiev regime on Donetsk and Lugansk have been essentially ignored," which led to "great destruction and casualties." "We cannot and will not accept this," he said. "There are new realities, and we proceed from the fact that in humanitarian matters they must be taken into account," Vershinin added.
"We do not and will not accept ultimatum demands for us to do something based on the alleged fact that Kiev is responsible for these territories. We must clearly take into account the new situation and the results of the free choice of the population of these territories to become part of the Russian Federation. We can and will cooperate with international organizations on this basis," Vershinin stated.
