Russia’s, China’s veto on US’ draft resolution on Gaza saves world from shameful scenario
It has to be borne in mind that this institution is an important factor encouraging members of the Security Council to search for balanced solutions, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said
UN, November 18. /TASS/. Russia’s and China’s veto on the draft resolution on the Middle East of the UN Security Council initiated by the US saved the world from a shameful scenario, Russia’s First Deputy Permanent Representative to the UN Dmitry Polyansky said.
"We do not support the initiatives leading to impairment of prerogative rights of current permanent members of the Security Council, including the veto institution. It has to be borne in mind that this institution is an important factor encouraging members of the Security Council to search for balanced solutions," he said when speaking on the issue of fair representation and expansion of membership in the Security Council.
"Application of the veto or the threat of its application have repeatedly enabled the UN to avoid being dragged into doubtful risky investment. All could fully realize it not long ago when the US and its satellites tried to promote the resolution of the Security Council supporting Israel’s actions in Gaza. And only Russia’s and China’s veto saved the world from this shameful scenario," Polyansky said.
