Russia seeks extradition of Greek-Russian entrepreneur from Denmark — media
The businessman is residing in Greece, where he runs a transport company
STOCKHOLM, November 15. /TASS/. A court in the Danish city of Frederiksberg rejected a plea for release, filed by a 56-year-old Greek-Russian entrepreneur, who was earlier detained in Denmark on Russia’s request, the Ritzau news agency has reported.
The businessman is residing in Greece, where he runs a transport company. He travelled to Denmark in early October to visit a themed exhibition, but was detained on October 13 while boarding a flight to his home country in Copenhagen Airport (also known as Kastrup). According to the report, the police "responded to an arrest warrant issued by Russia."
The man is "accused of financial crimes, [committed] when he lived not far from Sochi many years ago."
The detainee spent 31 days in a pretrial detention facility in Kopenhagen. On Tuesday, the judge resolved to extend his custody by 14 days. The man requested to release him, adding that he has "lost all his Russian assets."
Shortly after his arrest at Copenhagen Airport, Russia submitted an official extradition request to Denmark. The country’s attorney general and the police of Copenhagen found no reasons to reject it without a proper court hearing. The agency reported that "earlier this year, a district court in Kramatorsk partially cleared him of some of the charges." In 2021, "a Greek court rejected Russia’s extradition request.".
