African continent is generally positive towards Russia — Putin
Russian President called this attitude "an important base" to build "businesslike relationships"
ST. PETERSBURG, July 30. /TASS/. The African continent as a whole is extremely friendly and positive towards Russia, despite the difference in opinions in specific countries. Russian President Vladimir Putin said this at a press conference on the results of the Second Russia-Africa Summit.
The head of state noted that "there are different people", there are different politicians in different states. "But on the whole, the African continent is extremely friendly and positive towards us," Putin said.
He noted that he was very pleased to realize this during the days of the summit. According to him, "everyone remembers what happened during the struggle for independence."
Putin called this attitude "an important base" to build "businesslike relationships."
The President described the atmosphere at the summit as relaxed and friendly.
"People want to work with us. And, of course, we must do everything to move in this direction and we will do it," he concluded, assuring that Russia would support African countries in various areas, as well as by supplying humanitarian help.
The second Russia-Africa Summit, along with an economic and humanitarian forum, took place in the Russian city of St. Petersburg on July 27-28. Similar to the first such event in 2019, the summit was held under the rubric "For Peace, Security and Development." The event was organized by the Roscongress Foundation. TASS, which was the official information partner and photo-hosting agency of the summit and forum, also hosted the second Russia-Africa Media Forum.
