MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russian State Duma lawmakers will propose amendments to the Criminal Code that tighten punishments for terrorism, aiding terrorist activities and calls for terrorism, and expand the list of crimes that carry life imprisonment, says Vasily Piskaryov, head of the Duma Committee on Security and Combating Corruption.

"We will propose amendments shortly that tighten punishment for terrorism. […] We will tighten punishments for Criminal Code articles 205 ('terror attack'), 205.1 (‘aiding in terrorist activities’), 205.2 (‘public calls for terrorist activity, public justification of terrorism, propaganda of terrorism’) and other Criminal Code articles that involve punishment for terrorist activities," he said on his Telegram channel.

"And, most importantly, we will propose to expand the list of offenses that carry lifetime imprisonment," the lawmaker added.

He underscored that such measures are necessary for protection against those unprecedented threats that Russia faces from Ukraine and its Western sponsors.

"Anyone who plotting, planning a terror attack, helps or simply justifies terrorists, must not avoid the harshest of punishments," he concluded.
