Disney withdraws movies, TV shows from Russian streaming services

MOSCOW, March 1. /TASS/. Disney films, including the Star Wars franchise, the Pirates of the Caribbean series, film adaptations of Marvel comics, and animated films such as Frozen, Coco, and Soul, will be removed from the libraries of Russian streaming services Kinopoisk, Ivi, and Okko. Okko's press service reported on Wednesday that the contract with Disney with Russian services ends in March.

"Sometimes, the rights to display certain content expire. The contract between Disney and us and other services expires in March," the company’s press service said.

Earlier, Ivi announced on its website that a number of Disney films would be removed from its online catalog after February 28. "Timeless Disney classic is available until February 28," the company said. Kinopoisk also announced that Disney content was available until February 28.

At the same time, Okko said its library now has over 100,000 films, TV shows, animated movies, and educational programs. "Whether or not Okko renews its contract with a particular copyright holder, new high-quality content appears on the service, both independent and created by leading global and European studios," the service representatives stated.
