About 4,000 wildfires reported in Russia this year, acting emergencies minister says

Fires in Russia’s Urals, Siberia kill 16, injure another 18, Alexander Chupriyan said

MOSCOW, May 10. /TASS/. The Russian Emergencies Ministry has reported 4,000 wildfires in the country so far this year, Acting Emergencies Minister Alexander Chupriyan said at a meeting with the Russian president on Tuesday.

"About 4,000 wildfires have been reported in Russia since the start of this year," Chupriyan said.

Sixteen people, including one child, were killed by fires in the Kurgan, Krasnoyarsk, Kemerovo, Irkutsk, Omsk and Novosibirsk Regions, and another 18 were injured, Acting Emergencies Minister toldFires in Russia’s Urals, Siberia kill 16, injure another 18.

"Thirty-four people were hurt by fires, sixteen of them were killed, including one child, and 16 were hospitalized, including six firefighters," Chupriyan said.
