MOSCOW, February 13. /TASS/. Moscow Babushkinsky District court postponed the proceeding on the slander case against Alexey Navalny until February 16, a TASS correspondent reported.

"The court has adjourned the hearing, the next session is set for February 16," judge Vera Akimova stated.

On Friday, the court completed the study of evidence of the prosecution and interrogated Navalny who refused to admit his guilt.

At the upcoming hearing, the defense may complete the presentation of evidence, after that the court will be able to hear the arguments of the parties. During the proceedings, the state prosecution will name the punishment that it considers fair for the defendant.

The maximum punishment Navalny faces under the Slander article implies a fine of up to 1 million rubles ($13,576) or mandatory works for up to 240 hours.

According to the prosecution, Navalny on June 2 uploaded a video to a telegram channel and Twitter page in which World War II Veteran Ignat Artyomenko expressed his civic position in support of amendments to the Constitution. Navalny made wittingly false comments harmful to the veteran’s honor and dignity and undermining his reputation, thus causing moral suffering to the plaintiff. Navalny does not recognize his guilt. Earlier, a court replaced Navalny’s suspended sentence in the Yves Rocher case with a real one. He is kept at the detention center Matrosskaya Tishina.
