Health minister rates Russia’s coronavirus situation as stable

We do not see any considerable growth, it is moderate, Mikhail Murashko said

KALININGRAD, December 5. /TASS/. The coronavirus situation in Russia can be assessed as stable, but preventive measures are compulsory to curb its spread, Russian Health Minister Mikhail Murashko told reporters during his working trip to Kaliningrad on Saturday.

"As of now, the situation remains quite stable. We do not see any considerable growth, it is moderate," Murashko said.

The minister pointed out that Russia focuses on changing coronavirus situations in specific regions and takes local measures to curb the spread of coronavirus. An important part is vaccination which should be started. Health workers and teachers are the first to be inoculated, he said.

"Firstly, we must ensure that the medical staff and teachers are able to work. And the next stage is at-risk groups, or those with a high risk of complications and hospitalizations," he said.

"It is the preventive way that is effective. Of course, it takes a while to develop immunity. During that period, we need to carry on with mobilization activities which the healthcare service does, or outpatient treatment. The government has supported the idea to extend and to provide medicines for a month, for January, at the expense of the federal money until the situation is tense," he said.

"Therefore, the availability of medical care and drugs are those things that stabilize [the situation]," he concluded hoping that this package of measures would result in a drop in cases.
