Vladimir Putin says state-of-the-art military technology should be used in advanced civilian industries
MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. State-of-the-art military technology should be used in advanced civilian industries, said Russian President Vladimir Putin during a joint panel hosted by the Russian Academy of Sciences and the National Research Center Kurchatov Institute.
"Today, we must ensure the use of cutting-edge military technology in advanced production spheres, just like nuclear energy came to be used in peaceful ways - constructing power plants, building icebreaking fleets, and so on," President Putin said.
Drawing upon its wealth of experience, the Russian head of state called for "making sure that our civilian science [program] becomes competitive on a global level." "Russia should be among the leading countries in multiple research areas - first and foremost, in mathematics, which serves as the building block for a digital economy," he stressed.
Putin also noted that Russia must achieve a quantum leap in the sphere of genomic research and material sciences in order to reach a new level in developing and implementing convergent technologies and technologies that are similar to natural processes. According to Putin, this entails extensive disciplinary research across such sciences as mathematics, physics, biology, cognitive and IT sciences, and others. The President hoped that the new discoveries would help create innovative methods of prevention, diagnosis and treatment for curable and incurable diseases.
"Our current and future achievements in fundamental research will help us reach new horizons in the exploration of our planet, as well as near and distant space, and in the study of our universe’s history," added Putin, stressing that our scientists must achieve great success in these fields, because they are highly important for our civilization. "In the coming years, we must implement a national science project that will be on the same scale and have the same historic implications for our country as nuclear and space projects," the Russian leader concluded.
