Putin, Rouhani to discuss Iran nuclear deal — Kremlin aide
Vladimir Putin and Hassan Rouhani will have a meeting in Ankara on April 4
MOSCOW, April 2. /TASS/. Presidents Vladimir Putin of Russia and Hassan Rouhani of Iran, who will have a meeting in Ankara on April 4, will discuss the Iran nuclear deal in the light of the United States’ statements on its possible revision, Russian president’s aide Yuri Ushakov said on Monday.
"We expect that Putin and Rouhani will discuss the situation around the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) in the light of signals from the Americans about their intention to revise the terms of the deal," he told journalists.
"The Russian side sees its key task in preserving the efficiency of this joint plan of action, which is especially important bearing in mind that Iran is fully implementing its liabilities, which is regularly confirmed by the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA)," he said, adding that this position is shared by China and European partners.
The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), known as the deal on Iran’s nuclear program, was signed between Iran and six international mediators (the United Kingdom, Germany, China, Russia, the United States, and France) on July 14, 2015. On January 16, 2016, the parties to the deal announced beginning of its implementation. Under the deal, Iran undertakes to curb its nuclear activities and place them under total control of the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in exchange of abandonment of the sanctions imposed previously by the United Nations Security Council, the European Union and the United States over its nuclear program.
